MOTHERS DAY
My respect for Mouthshut increased to see them celebrate Mothers Day, Mother is a very dear thing to me, I Just love my mother, this is a worthy cause, let us give credit due to all our mothers, we owe everything to her. Our DNA belongs to her; those of us who resemble mother in features are considered as lucky male child. I am a replica of my mother’s features. Hindus say Mother is God, Muslims say heavens lay thru service of mother.
The unfortunate among us get peeved by their mothers and cut them off from their lives in her old age and still call themselves successful, what a pity, our bones were clothed by the meat of our mothers body, we were tiny and helpless, our mother made us the call centre executive, engineer, IAS officer, Prime Minister, President, she did not knew what we will grow up to be. Still she took us under her cradle, the soft sweet smell no man/woman can forget all his/her life, the modern psychologist say it sooths our minds and gives it rest any time in our life.
Deewar a film by Yash Chopra, starring Amitabh Bacchan, Shashi Kapoor, Nirupa Roy in the role of mother. Shashi Kapoor is the cop who does not hesitate to sacrifice his life to fulfill his duty to his country, this was a tailor made role for him, he did it wonderfully, and later on he became a police officer in many more films.
The other son of Nirupa Roy is Amitabh Bacchan a hot head since childhood, does not tolerate injustice and does not mind grabbing his right by force, does not care for law, he says the law cannot give me 2 times food in a day. He says to his brother look at you where you are and look at my clothes and look at my buildings.
He toiled his way on street corners and works as a dock laborer grows up toughened and becomes a smuggler and filthy rich; incidentally he pays with his hard work for the study of his younger brother becoming a police officer.
They both grow up and there grows a wall between them at the time of films interval, when each comes to understand they cannot change their ideals and they both stand at the opposite ends of the law.
The rivalry between brothers to get their mother stay with them is well filmed; it was really as tense as the knot in your throat. This movie made you feel, made you empathize, made you take sides, made you get involved in the story, like at times Amitabh Bacchan makes secret anonymous phone calls to his police officer brother and tell him about movements of smugglers he know.
The conflict of principals, the hardships of life and the unsaid love of the family, the pull of mother towards both her children, the longing of children to get the approval of mother were beautifully filmed and acted by these 2 super stars of later days.
This was a low budget film, made by Yash Chopra in the early days of all of them even the cast were all budding actors, so the effort was visible on the faces of each actor to out perform, it is a evergreen film, it is one rare enjoyable product from bollywood. The music, the songs everything jelled well in the plot of this film, it went on to become a benchmark in entertainment for a long time.
Some said this film glorifies smugglers, some said it glorifies police, some said it is about the conflict between good and evil, some said it is the story of Haji Mastan, some said Amitabh Bacchan copied Dilip kumar in this film, there are many stories connected with this film, but one image and one story stands out very precisely in this film is the MOTHER. All who saw this film instantly agree this film projects motherhood.
Even today Mouthshut after 2 decades choose this film to represent Mother’s DAY is testimony to the fact that this film is also about mother. There is mother in every frame of this film; if she is not physically present then her discussion is prime subject in each frame of this film. This is the reason DEEWAR became symbolic of Mothers image.
The climax is very good, the best dialog in this film is said by Nirupa Roy the mother, she says a mother has done her duty and now she will go to fulfill the promise to her other son. Nirupa Roy a lady I have seen in the role of mother in zillions of Hindi Film did her roles perfectly.
This film has 3 stars Amitabh Bacchan, Shashi Kapoor, Nirupa Roy, I cannot forget the acting of this lady, her face was very compassionate, and it was a pleasure to watch her play mother over a long period of time in Hindi film movies.
After DEEWAR Nirupa Roy and Amitabh Bacchan became a pair to play mother and son in many films later on following the success of Deewar. I believe mouthshut completely justified choosing Deewar and Mother India as representative of Mother's Day.
Look into the mirror and see those eyes looking at you, see that nose pointing at you, see those features staring at you, they are a gift of your mother and father, you cannot deny them, it is their permanent stamp and signature nature saw it fit to leave it on our faces. Let us serve and cherish our Mother and Father.
