METHODICAL SAM, CYNICAL MAGGIE
ADDICTED TO LOVE
We all love, we all liked to be loved, with so much desire and with so much wanting we still fail
to catch that high flying elusive butterfly called love. I have learned early in life love is 3
quarters pain and 1 quarter pleasure.

The right reverend was pointing at the swim suit clad models and shouting at the gathering do you
see love, do you feel the pull of love, my dear folks what's love got to do with it. Love has
nothing to do with the creation of world nor our souls.

We feel anger, happiness, vengeance, despair, love, hunger, satisfaction, pain, agony, elation all
these things are names, they are not just names but definite state of minds, our body is capable
of feeling all these emotions repeatedly many times in our lives.

We ask our main frame (Mind) do I go further deep with this emotion, do I explore other new
depths of these feelings, the answer keeps coming yes please, more longer more greater in depth
keep exploring, we don’t know when do we get addicted to love.

We feel hollow without love, we feels our heads are weightless, we feel our senses have become
tasteless and stagnate, withdrawal of love amputates our senses, it is like the death of feelings,
we become slashed cabbage.

Sam (Mathew Broderick) is a astronomer, he loves his work, he loves his place of birth, he also
loves a girl Linda Green (Kelly Preston) since their childhood. Linda wants to explore greener
pastures in her career and goes away to New York, she overlooks the plea of Sam not to go.

Sam flees after Linda leaving his work, his town, his wish to see exploding super novas, Sam is
methodical, he finds Linda shacked up with Anton depeux (Tcheky Karyo) in New York, Sam decides
to wait and watch Linda and see for the signs of split so he can again claim her love.

Sam's addiction for Linda is so much that he starts preparing her mood charts, smile charts,
eating charts, daily routine charts, he asks his buddy to sell his turck and buys himself
observation equipment and paints a white screen on his abandoned wall to watch clearly Linda
watching T.V. or eating breakfast or dinner with Anton her present lover.

God helps those who helps themselves, Sam finds abandoned old building right in front of Linda's
flat, this is from where Sam is carrying on his observation work. There is a helmet wearing
motorcycle rider watching Sam, he is watching all Sam's activities, one day the rider goes to
Anton house and suddenly decides to pay a visit to Sam instead, he climbs down the roof of Sam's
broken down building and lands with his backpack. He takes out his helmet, it is Maggie (Meg
Ryan) all with her lovely blond boy cut hair, deep blue eyes.

Maggie wants to destroy Anton for making her feel wonderful and wanted once a few days back. She
states her purpose clearly to Sam and warns him to stay out of her way and away from her things.
Maggie is a cynical person.

Maggie finds Sam and his purpose funny and laughable, she plants a microphone in Anton's living
area, now Sam and Maggie both have live audio and pictures of Linda and Anton 24/7 in their stake
out.

Sam and Maggie watch Linda and Anton growing closer and very happy in their intimacy against the
predictions of Sams study and Maggie’s comfort, Maggie converts Sam to her purpose of destroying
Anton with whatever it takes and however it is done. They recruit a monkey to plant lipstick
marks on the neck of Anton while he is going back to his flat. They make many attempts like
these.

We have 2 pair of actors 1 pair infront of us, one pair being watched by our pair. So there are 2
stories one is fair and one is near, most of the times we are watching Anton and Linda on the
wall of Sam with lots of commentary from Maggie. These 2 stories are relayed to us one directly
and one indirectly, there is a party at Anton's house and we have Sam and Maggie having their
regular chips and watching the party on their wall screen.

There are some very fun situations and dialogs; the film tries to keep the story in the realm of
a story and entertaining, no time the film makes an attempt to acquire a life of its own, there
are no links created by the films or their characters to us real viewers. Every thing in the film
is aimed to keep entertainment light and happy, some good music with light songs are enjoyable in
this film.

There is no grip of horror or intense emotional drain on the viewer, the visual are smooth and
calm, there are no mission impossible to acquire real dimensions for me as a viewer, I always
want a film to remain an imagined story, I want it like that for my kids too. I don’t want my kids
to grow up believing things imagined as real, they will have a hollow to support their
Imaginations. I am sure this hollow will have permanent psychological damage in future.

This film story was light like the stories of my grandmother, by the way there is a granny
visiting the dump of Maggie to see her because she misses her, she tells Maggie about the radio
programme she heard waiting for her to come. There are some funny twists and turns in the story
with superb shouting of Maggie (Meg Ryan) heard in the background with when Anton and Sam get to
talk about their hearts. I give 8 out of 10 to this story and movie.

Yo do not let imagined stories acquire real life properties, they are harmful.
